Selective Reviews

Selective Insurance Reviews 2023 (Ratings, Complaints & Coverage). Selective Insurance was originally founded in the 1920's in Branchville, New Jersey by Daniel Smith and few of his colleagues. Back then, the company was known as the Selected Risks Insurance Company. Later, the company changed its name to Selected Risks Indemnity, and formed the Selected Risks Fire Insurance Company a year later.

It was not until the 1930's that the company expanded its products to include general liability and worker's compensation. They also expanded to D.C. and other adjacent states. By 1958, both the Selected Risks Indemnity and the Selected risks Fire Insurance Company were merged into the Selected Risks Insurance Company.

In 1986, the Selected Risks Insurance Company changed its name to Selective Insurance Company of America. Today, Selective primarily caters to Eastern and Midwestern states. If you are a business owner looking to buy liability insurance, read Selective Insurance reviews to learn about Selective's products.

Selective Commercial Insurance Rates

Unlike many other insurance companies, Selective Insurance does not give out online quotes. So if you want to compare their rates with other insurance companies then you will need to contact one of their local agents. In fact, they relies on their agents to sell most of their products. Selective Insurance reviews for availability are average.

Generally, insurance companies that do this charge higher rates due to commissions, so it's a good guess that Selective may offer higher rates than average. Another possibility is that they offers competitive rates for some, but not for others. The only way to know for sure is to contact a representative and ask them about their business insurance packages.

Claims Process

Selective is efficient when it comes to processing claims. Their toll free claim line is available 24 hours a day, and unlike their quotes, they have an online form that their clients can use to submit claims directly to their site. As far as claims processing goes, this is a good sign, as small regional insurance companies don't have this kind of service.

Once the claim is submitted, they will contact their client within 24 hours, after which an adjuster will arrive to investigate the incident and look at the coverage on the policy. The insured will then receive a letter discussing the final decision on their claim. They will then pay the settlement and the claim is closed. Selective ratings for claims are ok.

Selective has received positive ratings from several ratings agencies. AM Best, Fitch as well as Standard and Poor's have all given Selective a Financial Outlook of "Stable." Selective Insurance reviews are good.

Likewise, AM Best and S&P have given the company "A" ratings, while Fitch has given it an "A+." So as far as financial rating and stability goes, they are stable.

Selective Commercial Insurance Bottom Line

All in all, they only offers basic commercial insurance products. So if you're going to buy your business insurance plan from them, don't expect a wide variety of coverage options to choose from. However, it's also worth mentioning that what Selective lacks in variety of products.

One downside to their services is that they don't seem to offer a lot of information on their sites. Selective Insurance reviews for their website appear below average. As we've said, their rates are not available on the internet and the details on their coverage options are somewhat lacking. This can be quite inconvenient for a lot of people, particularly those who prefer to compare rates online.
